About AAMMH's Lesotho Chapter

The Lesotho Alliance for Maternal Mental Health (LAMMH) is a testament of the power of collaboration. It was established through the Community Health Intervention through Musical Engagement (CHIME) project in September 2025.

LAMMH is a multisectoral network uniting government, NGOs, academia, the private sector, and people with lived experience to promote the integration of maternal mental health into primary health care. Its success in gaining support from its local Ministry of Health is commendable and inspirational.

Objectives

advocate for the integration of maternal mental health into national policies and guidelines

build leadership and governance capacity

promote the development of evidence-based, integrated intervention packages for perinatal women

Outcomes

Official launch

The launch of the Lesotho Alliance for Maternal Mental health was attended by an astounding 85 participants from four government ministries, civil society, international partners, academia, and media. The programme featured presentations from WHO, CHIME, LAMMH, and people with lived-experience, while celebrating Lesotho’s rich cultural heritage through creative performances, poetry, and dance.

international conference for maternal mental health in Africa 2025

The team were selected to present their abstract titled “CHIME: A Participatory Community Health Intervention through Musical Engagement for Maternal Mental Health” at 4th International Conference for Maternal Mental Health in Africa (ICAMMHA 2025.

 

Bold Ideas for Brighter Futures 2026

The team introduced the Lesotho Alliance for Maternal Mental Health to a wider audience at the Bold Ideas for Brighter Futures 2026: 2nd Global Conference on Child and Adolescent Mental Health. Their presentation titled ‘The Lesotho Alliance for Maternal Mental Health: A Collaborative Approach to Strengthen Child and Adolescent Mental Health’ was presented under the theme ‘Strengthening mental health policy responses for, and with, children and adolescents.’ The speakers were alliance representatives Moroesi Makhetha and Malebanye David Lerotholi.
